BARNABY

Currently our only rooster, Barnaby rules the roost with love and respect for his hens. He is a purebred Buff Brahma, and was part of a large owner surrender. We found homes for all of the other roosters, but we decided to keep Barnaby.

He was hatched in August of 2011, and came to live with us in March of 2012.

OUR ROOSTER

OUR HENS

EGGBERT

Americauna X Rhode Island Red

Green Egg Layer

Our first 3 chickens were hatched as part of my daughter’s FFA project. She had to bring home the incubator during Christmas break. The eggs hatched on December 20, 2012. Eggbert was the only hen. She had 2 brothers, LaLa and BeBe. LaLa was sold, and BeBe went back to the school to be part of the FFA program.

Red Rita

Americauna X Rhode Island Red

Green Egg Layer

Also hatched as part of the FFA program, our next 3 chickens all turned out to be hens. Rita, Flash, & Betty were hatched on April 2, 2012. Rita is the only surviving of the three.

Speckles

Americauna X Rhode Island Red

Green Egg Layer

Also hatched as part of the FFA program, our next 3 chickens were hatched on May 9, 2012. Speckles was the only hen from this group. Her brothers, Big Reg & Featherlegs, were sold.

On March 20, 2013, we purchased 8 pullets. There were 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Australorps, and 4 Americaunas.

Of these babies, Bertha died before she every layed an egg. Bonnie passed away last summer, & recently Buffy died from the heat while broody.  The others have their own bios on this page.

Silvia  passed away 6/7/2015, unknown age.

Silver Americauna

Blue Egg Layer

We traded 2 roosters for Silvia in Sept of 2012. She was a mess when we got her (pic on left). She was very flighty and fearful. It took weeks to get near her. She ended up being a very sweet and beautiful girl. We don’t know how old she was, but we think she died of old age.

Widget

Americauna

Blue Egg Layer

As an adult (will update pics soon), Widget has just a little more red to her. She also ended up with cheeks that have an 80’s feathered look to them.

Gidget

Americauna

Blue Egg Layer

Gidget and Widget are “The Twins”. They were purchased from a local breeder and were extremely difficult to tell apart as babies. As an adult (will update pics soon), Gidget has a little bit more gray tone to her.

Fidget

Americauna

Blue-Green Egg Layer

Fidget got her name because although friendly she is kind of jumpy, fidgety. She gets into everything and flies more than any of the other hens.

Bridget

Americauna

Blue Egg Layer

Bridget is laid back and sweet. She is one of Barnaby’s favorite hens, and can always be found next to him on the roost at night.

Buffy-passed away 6-17-2015

Buff Orpington

Brown Egg Layer

Buffy wasn’t a super social hen like her sister Blondie, but she was friendly. She was the first of any of our hens to ever go broody. Sadly we had a horrible heat wave come through while she was broody, and it was too much for her. We were able to hatch out 5 of her eggs that she was sitting on when she died.

Blondie

Buff Orpington

Brown Egg Layer

Blondie is a pocket chicken. She loves to be around people. She is quiet though, and isn’t a trouble maker.

Yellow #5-4/17/2014

Barnaby X Eggbert

Brahma/Americauna/Rhode Island Red

Green Egg Layer

Yellow#5 has the type of her mother Eggbert, but not sure where that color came from! She looks nothing like Barnaby, but he is our only rooster, so it’s anybody’s guess.

Becky 4/17/2014

Barnaby x Betty

Brahma/Maran/Americauna

Brown Egg Layer

Becky is Barnaby’s first child, and the only chick from our late hen Betty. She is the most talkative, social hen of them all. She will follow you around all day, chatting away the whole time.

Barbie 4/17/2014

Barnaby X Eggbert

Brahma/Americauna/Rhode Island Red

Green Egg Layer

Barbie is very sweet like her mother, and has the color of her father. She lays pretty green eggs.

Although we weren’t looking to add anymore outside chickens to our flock, on 5/1/2015,

3 hens were in the need of a new home, so we took them in....
